121 Post-16

Our post-16 121 programme is designed for young people who require an alternative pathway to mainstream college or apprenticeships. The curriculum is carefully structured to develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed for a successful transition into adulthood, further learning, employment, or training.

We provide a purposeful and supportive learning environment where learners can progress at an appropriate pace. Teaching focuses on practical skill development, confidence-building, and independence, with learning experiences that are relevant, meaningful, and clearly linked to Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) outcomes.

Our approach is grounded in the principles of lifelong learning, ensuring learners build habits, skills, and attitudes that will support them throughout adulthood. Staff use consistent, evidence-informed practice to remove barriers to learning and provide targeted support where required.

By tailoring learning to each individual’s starting point, strengths, and aspirations, we ensure each learner can demonstrate progress over time. Learners leave the programme with greater confidence, improved independence, and the foundational skills needed to take their next steps with clarity and purpose.

Our programmes support learners to:

  • Live independently: Learners develop practical life skills such as money management, time management, travel awareness, and self-care, enabling them to make informed decisions and manage day-to-day responsibilities.
  • Be part of their community: Learners are encouraged to engage in community-based activities that promote social responsibility, build confidence, and help them understand how to contribute positively to society.
  • Develop good health and wellbeing: Learning incorporates strategies for emotional regulation, resilience, healthy relationships, and positive routines, supporting learners to maintain their physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Prepare for employment: Learners gain essential employability skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, organisation, and workplace expectations. Activities are designed to help them understand the world of work and take practical steps towards future employment.
